The modern european sovereignty
Keywords:
Sovereignty, European Union, labourAbstract
This paper aims to analyze the process regarding the opening of EU member states’ frontiers through the Schengen
Agreement and its implications, mainly regarding the easing of countries’ sovereignties, the free movement of labour and
the role of the European central banks.
This study is composed of: an introduction that tries to define the concept of sovereignty; a second chapter that looks at the
evolution of the European Union formation process; a third part that focuses on the flexibility of sovereignty in Europe and
the circulation of labour throughout the continent; and finally, the resulting conclusion that the relaxation of sovereignty
is something changeable and adaptable.
As soon as a country opens its frontiers, it faces not only the benefits and advantages of the situation, but also its negative
consequences, which leads to a gradual will to close borders. Therefore, the process of opening European frontiers faces a
constant back and forth effect.
