The diasporic processes until the Dwelling Room: dissonant echoes in writing as resistance. The Identity Construction of Carolina Maria de Jesus

Abstract

For historical and ideological reasons, the production of female writing becomes even more distant in a scenario of
marginalized black women, born and raised mostly non-literate, or at most semiliterate, whose bodies sometimes act
as the only symbolic capital of black subjects. In Brazilian literature, representations of the black woman often mark the
subject negatively, anchored in stereotypes that, in turn, reproduce images related to the period of slavery, to the object
body or body-procreation, which supplies and serves. Faced with the need to occupy protagonist roles and consider black
feminist thinking as a democratic project, black women use self-representation as a means of approximation through
writing about themselves, acting to create expression, when previously they were imprisoned and silenced by historical
conditions, in places of dispute and conflict that were reproduced across the city. Breaking barriers, Carolina Maria de Jesus,
a black woman in “Eviction Room”, reports the dissonant echoes of the slaveholding reminiscences, present in her identity
construction and the violating processes in her life and narrative of black female diaspora. Understanding that although
the city is conceived discursively by multiple agents, this construction takes place in an asymmetrical and hegemonic
way, based on the legitimation of certain knowledge and narrators, authorized to delimit, marginalize, delegitimize and
subjugate narratives, territories and subjects that do not occupy privileged places in the social hierarchy
