Abstract

The division between the place of men and women in society is a very pertinent issue nowadays. As we will discuss in this article, it occurs in the art field. There are not many records about the success of female artists, but it doesn’t mean that it did not happen, or even that their contributions were less significant than those of men. However, it is important to highlight that history, until very recently, was written only by men. Female artists had to overcome several barriers, the first of which was the educational issue. This article aims to show the feminine achievement over the centuries in the art world, leaving the domestic space and reaching other levels of society, through themes like politics, environment, education, and culture.
