Abstract

The article tries to discuss causes and consequences of Portuguese mistakes that occur in journalistic texts in the media, based on reflections motivated by trends and practices more and more common in journalism. Besides deficiencies in school education and a certain contempt for the correct use of the language, there are other causes such as: the ever-increasing haste with which messages are being produced, a feature even more present in the digital media, and the extreme colloquialism that electronic media are adopting to approach and to conquer the public. The mixture of such ingredients has been reflected on an increasingly more incorrect use of the language, in and out of the media, and in deviations, language vices and linguistic concessions of all kinds, impoverishing journalism and the Portuguesa language itself.
