The Confederation of Tamoios: its founding myths, its national and local uses, and the place of Indian history and Cabo Frio society

Abstract

The article discusses how has been the incentive granted by the municipal government in Cabo Frio local historical production , especially production of memoir writers , thus contradicting the national movement that increasingly makes more professional historical production and regulated . In addition, we compare the cast by memoirs and historians about a historical event seen as fundamental to the history of Brazil and the history of Cabo Frio, “A Confederação dos Tamoios”. It was noticed that the speeches have several purposes. The memoirs are concerned to emphasize his love of Cabo Frio and to value its history, without further contextualization, underlining the passive character of tamoios indigenous ethnicity. Historians seek to analyze the same event relating to more expanded scale levels, in order to contextualize it better, moreover, highlight the active character of that ethnicity.
