The exercise of Observation: An urban analysis on a territorial fragment of Vila Valqueire neighborhood

Abstract

This paper is synthesized in an analysis guided by the theoretical-instrumental articulation of authors critical about the Planned Cities Reproduction Model of the Twentieth Century - to reveal hypothesis about the formation of contemporary urban spaces - in particular the Carioca suburb. The research is dedicated to the examination of a territorial fragment, in the form of a city block, located in the city of Rio de Janeiro - Vila Valqueire neighborhood. Imbued with a critical sense, through elements raised by references, the Object of this exercise reveals the reality. Thus, the Method enabled the possibility of interpretation of a palpable model, based on theories fixed by established authors on the theme. The constitution of specific areas of the suburb of Rio de Janeiro, in terms of urban evolution, manifests itself as a concrete result of social relations, revealing symptoms of peculiarities and characteristics of a society based around a market economy. However, what we can assess is the form of space appropriation exercised through a logic based on issues that transcend the economic bias, admitting original and organic characteristics related to cultural and historical influences. Finally, the article specifies how the analytical-conceptual approach shown here can contribute, by revealing the different aspects in the formation of cities, for a necessary Urban Revolution.
