Sharing methods in the production and reception of fashion photography: a study on the images of the photographer Carlos Safker

Abstract

Is it possible to think about receiving photos as sharing experience? To reflect upon this question, we start from the ethnomethodological perspective that every group action is based on agreements that orient and explain the actions. Those agreements are not about shared meanings, but about methods and instructions, according to the reception theory. And although the final interpretation relies on the repertoire and stock of each agent, the starting point of this experience is shared, since the methods are common to the receivers. In this article we use the work of the fashion photographer Carlos Safker and the research assumes that explicitly or not every work guides the receiver’s sense. The methodology is bibliographical and qualitative research and critical analyses.
