The myth of Getúlio Vargas: popular imagination 70 years after his death

This article analyzes the results of the research project “O mito Getúlio Vargas 70 anos após sua morte”, conducted in 2024 by Professor and historian Guilherme José Motta Faria, in collaboration with members of the research group “Dimensões do Regime Vargas e seus desdobramentos” (UERJ). The study developed a questionnaire consisting of ten questions regarding perceptions of the former president and his government, each offering four response options. The survey was completed by six hundred participants, mostly elementary and high school students. This paper aims to examine the collected data in order to understand the significance of the responses in shaping a contemporary popular perception of Getúlio Vargas.
