The importance of the debate about the Vargas Era in the classroom: challenges and proposals

Abstract

This text proposes a reflection on the figure of Getúlio Vargas and the so-called Vargas Era, based on student responses to the survey form “The Getúlio Vargas Myth 70 Years After His Death.” The primary objective is to consider the challenges faced in the classroom related to this topic and, through discussion, identify possible paths forward. Thus, we selected two questions from those included in the form to guide the discussion. This analysis is necessary, as it enables history teachers to broaden their horizons—making history classes more engaging and dynamic, capturing students’ attention, and promoting the value of history within the school curriculum
