Breaking The Chain: Challenges of Higher Education and Academia in the 21St Century

All instances of social reality have been transformed after the establishment and development of modernity. We live a new kind of social logic as well as a new kind of individual, yet strangely education is still embedded in a rather confusing tangle, which has strands of traditionalism as well as modernity. This paper seeks to discuss the place of higher education - academic and intellectual - at a time of excessive acceleration of information transmission and very little depth of knowledge, as well as the role of educator and learning as agents of transformation.
