Abstract

On March 24th, 2016, a chatbot played a pivotal role on the rekindling of the debate on the dystopian possibilities of artificial intelligence. Tay was developed by Microsoft as a means to improve virtual assistant services. It was designed to learn through interaction with humans, but the experiment led to an embarrassing episode. Based on this fact, this paper discusses the role played by algorithms on the production of narratives within the digital culture.
