Abstract

Due to the complexity of managing municipal solid waste is of importance that local governments and society seek partnerships in order to reduce the volume of insusceptible materials recovery, sent unnecessarily to dumps ou landfills. This article aims to make a critical analysis of the productive chain of recycling the city of Rio de Janeiro, by checking the quantity
and types of recyclables four recycling cooperatives, CoopGaleão, CoopQuitungo, Cootramub and Cooplimpar, located in the city's North Zone. With the proposed study, the main difficulties for the adequacy of cooperative norms and current environmental legislation will be identified. Through the results, we intend to discuss preliminarily some relevant guidelines for the construction of more efficient public policies for waste management in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro.
