Security perspectives in the United States and the construction of an external- internal interface of the militarization of urban space over the last decades

Abstract

This paper proposes to outline a critical analysis that evaluates the perspective of transferring US militarized elements designed for abroad policy to homeland security policy in the United States, shaping an external-internal interface of militarization of urban space over the last decades. An introductory part describes authors who analyzed this process and then pointed out aspects of the perspectives of security as a political process, a process that also has a discursive and identity approach that permeates power disputes. The paper also presents how actors, structures, discourses and practices were being shaped over time through programs and projects in the North American domestic environment, aiming to achieve a security shaped for the Western world predetermined by the USA considering the Cold War, the War on Drugs and the Global War on Terror. Besides that, all these elements, will sustain what is defined as a militarization of North American urban space.
