An analysis of the Irmandade do Rosário dos Pretos in Salvador da Bahia from an Afro-centered Quilombist point of view
Keywords:
black brotherhoods, afrocentricity, ancestry, quilombismoAbstract
This article brings an Afro-centered epistemological reflection on the black brotherhoods, in particular the socio-historical trajectory of the Brotherhood of the Rosário dos Pretos in Salvador da Bahia. The methodology was participant observation and bibliographic review, more especially the concepts of black diaspora (Gilroy), coloniality of Power (Quijano), afrocentricity (Assante) and quilombismo (Nascimento). Faced with the strong identity matrix and the principle of ancestry, the brotherhood has functioned over the four centuries of history as a space of empowerment, of an associative and religious nature, advancing in a political and transformative bias, finally becoming a true quilombo of resistance physical and cultural.
