Abstract

Based on André Green's concept of death narcissism, this paper aims to understand maternal death narcissism, the processes of primary identifications, and the deobjectifying function present in the "dead mother complex". Using a clinical case, an analysis was conducted on the primary object relations of a mother who complains of disinvestment towards her children during gestational periods. The case analysis points to a transgenerational character of the deobjectifying function of maternal death drive, as the instinctual repercussions in the relationship with the primary object indicate the repetition of previously experienced disinvestment.
