Abstract

In the 1950s, the typical, traditional family was the hierarchical family. In this type of family, the sexual roles of men and women are well defined. The process of modernization has engendered a new ideal type of family: the "egalitarian family". We can see that nowadays, this state of tension between the progressive tendency, which is advancing more and more, and the conservative resistance, which also seems to be growing much more than it remains, is becoming more radical. How can we explain the fact that this constant tension has not been overcome? What is the family from the point of view of psychoanalysis?
