Abstract

The article proposes a critical analysis of the possibilities of articulating the concept of gender with psychoanalytic theories and practices. We present excerpts from interviews conducted with psychoanalysts who acknowledge the concept of gender and seek to problematize it through clinical practices. In the history of psychoanalysis, we find prejudices and violence embedded in theoretical assumptions, just as issues of gender tend to go unaddressed in clinical settings as part of the psyche. There is a need to incorporate the concept of gender into the psychoanalytic framework in order to enable a reevaluation of past history and produce interpretations more aligned with the reality that shapes us.
