The article approaches the modern phenomenon of bureaucratic device as an offshoot of disciplinary society and how professional life built in an office can dull our perception of reality. As a narrative example of these new forms of power brought about by the consolidation of capitalist civilization, we analyze the novel by Herman Melville, Bartleby, the scrivener.
