Enchanting stories: the influence of children’s literature on reader formation in childhood

Abstract

The present research aimed to investigate and understand the contributions of children's literature in the process of forming readers, as well as the benefits of reading for the integral development of children.
Through the methodology of bibliographic research, reflections on the importance of literature specifically developed for children in the formation of reading habits in childhood were explored and
described. The production and results of the bibliographic research indicate, in the first instance, the historical process of development and production of literature specifically aimed at children, showing its
evolution over the centuries, adapting to the educational and cultural needs of each era. In a second moment, the positioning of children's literature was analyzed not only as a literary genre but also as a
gateway to the universe of reading, with stimuli capable of arousing interest and the habit of reading. In the third moment, the importance of reading from the perspective of cognitive and socio-emotional
development in children was discussed, showing it to be fundamental for acquiring essential skills for full and emancipatory human development.
